Hello Weekend

23 June, 2017

watermelon

I’ve been taking a staycation all week, and it’s actually been quite busy. We started the process of rearranging our house to get ready for the baby. We removed all the furniture from the bedrooms and cleaned the blinds, windows, baseboards, and shampooed the carpets. (Definitely makes me wish we had wood floors!) But now things are a lot cleaner, and we’re moving all the furniture back in. It’s been quite the process.

We’ve also enjoyed leisurely mornings, walks with the dog, meeting friends for happy hour, and today I think we’re heading to the pool. Sad that the vacation is coming to an end, but happy to have had this week to catch up on some much needed sleep because there were LOTS of naps.

Here are a few links for your Friday –

  • Woman finds camera in thrift store. Develops film. Discovers photos of the Mount St. Helens eruption
  • We lived in Seattle for a couple of years, and I always love seeing where people go when they visit! It brings back so many memories for me, and also helps me create a list of where I need to go when I return one day. Here’s a list of 19 Most Instagram-Worthy Spots in Seattle by A Taste of Koko.
  • This watermelon agua fresca was one of our most popular recipes last summer. Make it now! It’s so refreshing, and if you want to make it a little boozy, just add the spirit of your choice. We loved it with tequila.

Raspberry Dutch Baby Pancake

Raspberry Dutch Baby Pancake

Lately I’ve been eating all the summer fruit. It seems like every time Josh or I go to the store, we pick up some deliciously ripe fruit. One day he came home with my favorite fruit.. raspberries! We ate some raw, but I also saw this as an opportunity to bake them into a raspberry dutch baby pancake.

Hello Weekend

9 June, 2017

This week has seemed so long and I’m happy the weekend is almost here! I’ve been watching a lot of the French Open this past week, and the finals are this weekend. So I’ll definitely be carving out some time to relax and watch people hit a tennis ball back and forth.

We’re also planning on doing some rearranging in our house before the baby arrives, so maybe we’ll kick that off this weekend. Starting with some decluttering so we have room for baby stuff! We’ve also got to finish our registry. We never did a wedding registry, so this has been our first registry experience! It’s been fun… but stressful. How do you decide on a crib? On a carseat? All those little things? Kinda overwhelming.

Here are a few links for your Friday –

  • We have no plans to take an overseas vacation anytime soon, but these photos make me want to book a flight to Portugal immediately! It’s on my list for future vacations.
  • How delicious does this coconut cake look?
  • Peaches are back in season! Time to make this Georgian Holiday and this Peach Panzanella.
  • As we’ll be parents soon, I’ve become fascinated with how parenting happens around the world. I love this series on A Cup of Jo so much.
  • I’m already curious about some of these shows hitting primetime tv this fall. Some familiar faces in there!

Spring Quiche with Bacon and Peas

31 May, 2017

Spring Quiche with Bacon and Peas

Okay, two days ago was the unofficial kickoff of summer, but technically it’s still spring! So I whipped up this spring quiche that has lots of yummy green goodness in it in the form of peas and green onions. Mmmm. Not sold yet? It also has BACON. And shallots. And a lots of sharp cheddar cheese.

Now are you sold?

If not, let me tell you about how fantastically this quiche reheats. It tastes just as good reheated as it does right after it was freshly baked. I should seriously start making one of these every Sunday, and then have the leftovers for breakfast throughout the week. That would make for much happier pre-work mornings.

A Trip to June’s All Day

26 May, 2017

June's All Day in Austin, Texas

This month, we’ve had a lot of fun stuff happening! We celebrated our third wedding anniversary, Josh had a birthday, and I had a birthday. May is always a fun month for us, even if it winds up being busy with celebrations.

For Josh’s birthday, we decided to try out a new place in our neighborhood called June’s All Day. It recently was on Food & Wine’s list of best restaurants. What sold us though? Half price on ALL their food during happy hour (which runs from 4-6pm, everyday).
