It happened. I was at Costco today and I noticed the cheeseburger had finally made it's way to the food court menu here in North Austin. I was going to grab a slice of pizza, but decided I HAD to try the burger. Some have compared it to Shake Shack. Would I love it as much as one of Costco's other recent additions... the acai bowl?
I stood in line, waiting. I heard people in front of me ordering the burger. I got excited. It had to be good, right?
The cheeseburger has 2 meat patties (6 oz of beef), cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and thousand island dressing. You can also pop over to the condiment area and add ketchup, mustard, and deli mustard. And more onions!
So, what was the verdict?
Honestly, meh. Didn't live up to my expectations. The texture was good. The meat patties were substantial. It's a LOT less calories than the pizza. But the flavor just wasn't there. It just felt like it was missing something. A sharper cheese? A tastier bun? More flavoring to the meat? Bacon?
Costco, I still love you, but I should have just gotten the pizza.
