Crispy air fryer smashed potatoes are a delicious side dish or appetizer. The potatoes get cooked and smashed, then crisped up perfectly in the air fryer.
Scrub the potatoes, then add to a large pot. Cover the potatoes with water, add ½ teaspoon of salt, and bring to a boil. Once water is boiling, cook for 25 minutes, or until tender when pierced with a fork.
Preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes at 400 degrees F.
Remove potatoes from water and place on a baking sheet or a large cutting board.
Smash the potatoes gently with a fork or the bottom of a drinking glass.
In a small bowl, mix together olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and ¼ teaspoon of salt.
Brush the potatoes with the oil mixture, then flip the potatoes and brush the other side.
Add potatoes to the air fryer basket in a single layer (you may need to do multiple batches, depending on your air fryer). Air fry for 15 minutes at 400 degrees F.
Remove from air fryer and serve as desired.
Notes
I boiled my potatoes first in a large pot with water, but you can also air fry them until fork tender if you prefer. Cook time may vary based on the size of your potatoes.
All air fryers cook differently. Adjust cooking times as needed.
If you're using both red and gold potatoes, like I did, note that they may not soften at the same time. I find that red potatoes take a a little longer to boil and get soft.
