Air fryer butternut squash is a quick and easy side dish! The butternut squash gets roasted in the air fryer so the outside is deliciously caramelized while the inside gets tender.
Butternut squash is so tasty. It's just one of those vegetables that has a touch of sweetness, but can either be served with something sweet or savory, depending on how you season it!
And it's so easy to make in the air fryer. So much quicker than roasting in the oven. You can also season the air fryer butternut squash in so many ways, from dried herbs to using maple syrup and cinnamon.
Ingredients:

- Olive oil
- Dried sage (can be swapped out with your favorite dried herb)
- Salt
- Pepper
Whole butternut squash versus buying pre-cut:
For this recipe, you can either buy a butternut squash and cut it yourself, or use precut cubes you can usually also find in the produce section.
Pros of cutting up a whole butternut squash yourself - saves money, as you'll usually be able to get a lot more butternut squash for a lower cost. You'll need to peel, deseed, and cut your butternut squash into cubes.
Pros of buying precut butternut squash cubes - so easy and quick, so if you don't want to spend a lot of time cutting up a butternut squash, this is the way to go. Also, usually the cubes are all cut a similar size, so you don't have to worry about trying to cut all the butternut squash cubes the same size yourself.
Can you use frozen squash?
Yes! You can absolutely make air fryer frozen butternut squash. Depending on the size of the butternut squash, you may have to cook for longer or shorter, usually somewhere between 12-15 minutes.
Customization ideas:
This recipe is easy to customize in so many ways! Here's a few ideas:
- Customize with your favorite dried herb! This recipe uses dried sage, but you could easily use dried thyme, rosemary, or oregano.
- For a slightly sweeter version, leave out the herbs and instead toss with a little maple syrup and some cinnamon.
- For a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the butternut squash cubes.
How to serve the butternut squash:
The air fryer butternut squash is tasty as a side dish alongside turkey, or air fryer mains like this air fryer chicken cutlet or air fryer honey mustard salmon.
