This grilled air fryer ham and cheese sandwich is quick and easy to make. It toasts up perfectly in the air fryer, getting the cheese perfectly melty.

Ham and cheese sandwiches are so classic. But even better? An air fryer grilled ham and cheese. The cheese gets all gooey and melty and the ham warms up, just the way I like it. Paired with crusty toasted bread? Yum.
Here in Portugal, there is a version called a tosta mista. It is basically a grilled ham and cheese sandwich, and I love it. Many places sprinkle dried oregano on it, so that's what I did here!
Ingredients
- Bread
- Ham
- Cheese
- Butter
- Dried oregano (optional)
How to make a grilled air fryer ham and cheese
Take two slices of bread and butter one side of each slice. Place a slice butter side down in the air fryer then top with slices of ham.
Add your cheese. If you have weirdly shaped bread, like me, you may want to tear up your cheese so it fits.
Add the other slice of bread, butter side up.
Air fry at 360 degrees F (180 degress C) for 6 minutes.
Slice and enjoy. Top with some dried oregano if desired.
Recipe tips
- If you want to make sure both sides of your bread are super-crispy, flip after 4 minutes of cook time.
- Many types of cheese work well here. I would suggest using whatever cheese you love using in a ham and cheese. I used cheddar for mine.
- You can customize this by adding dijon mustard or other seasonings. If I want it spicy, I add a tiny bit of piri piri oil.
