Peri peri salmon is a delicious spicy salmon made in a skillet. The peri peri sauce and honey combine for the perfect combination of spicy and sweet.

Are you a fan of spicy foods and salmon? If so, this peri peri salmon is for you.

The salmon is seasoned with spices and then topped with a spicy peri peri sauce. This is a dish that is easy to make but full of flavor.

Paired with your favorite vegetable, this spicy salmon makes a delicious lunch or dinner. The recipe serves 1 person as written, but can easily be doubled, tripled, or quadrupled to serve more.

Ingredients

  • Salmon fillet
  • Smoked paprika
  • Garlic powder
  • Peri-peri sauce
  • Honey
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

What is peri peri sauce?

Peri peri sauce it a spicy sauce made from chilis, garlic, citrus, vinegar and garlic. It's spicy, citrusy, and so delicious. Peri-Peri sauce originates in Africa (with a Portuguese influence) and is traditionally a blend of African bird's eye chilis.

Peri peri sauce is commonly used to flavor chicken, but it's delicious on salmon, vegetables, and other meats.

You can find Peri Peri sauce in a lot of grocery stores and also Trader Joe's has a version. Read about Trader Joe's versus Nando's Peri Peri sauce.

How to customize

Want it more garlicy? Saute some minced garlic in the skillet before adding the peri peri sauce.

Want it more citrusy? Squeeze some lemon or lime juice into the sauce.

What to serve with the salmon

I love serving the peri peri salmon with air fryer baby potatoes, air fryer smashed potatoes, or air fryer Mediterranean vegetables.

I also love serving with an arugula salad or roasted harissa carrots.

Recipe notes

  • Actual cook time may depend on thickness of your salmon and how well you like your salmon cooked.
  • Watch the sauce carefully to make sure honey doesn't burn in the skillet.
  • Spice levels may vary based on the type of peri peri sauce you choose to use.

How to make peri peri salmon

Remove skin on salmon if needed. Season salmon with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder.

In a small skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Once oil is hot, add salmon and cook 4-5 minutes. Flip and cook an additional 2-3 minutes.

Remove salmon from the skillet.

Turn heat down to medium-low and add the peri peri sauce. Heat up for 1-2 minutes, then serve the salmon with the sauce over the top.
