These crispy air fried Greek chickpeas are cooked in the air fryer and inspired by Greek flavors. The lemony air fryer chickpeas are delicious served in so many ways!
I love chickpeas. And I love my air fryer. So I made these chickpeas that get perfectly roasted in the air fryer. With some Greek and Mediterranean-inspired flavors of oregano and lemon.
So delicious. I love them for an easy afternoon snack, but often add them to grain bowls (usually farro or quinoa) with some other veggies like tomatoes and cucumber.

How to make air fried Greek chickpeas
First drain and rinse your chickpeas! Then, add them to a large bowl.
Add your olive oil, oregano, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt to the bowl. Toss together to combine.
Add to your air fryer basket and cook at 390 degrees F for 12-15 minutes, shaking every few minutes.
While chickpeas are cooking, zest up some lemon. (Note-- you always only want to zest the yellow part. The white part is bitter).
Once chickpeas are done, plate. Season with salt and pepper and top with lemon zest and any fresh herbs (I used parsley).
What are chickpeas?
Chickpeas are also sometimes called garbanzo beans, depending on what country you're in. They are a legume, like beans! They can be used in soups, salads, and crisped up to eat as a snack!
Chickpeas are also what is commonly used to make hummus. They are very common in Mediterranean dishes (salads, soups, falafel, etc.!)
How to customize the air fried chickpeas
These chickpeas can be customized in so many ways!
Switch up the seasoning - You could easily swap out the oregano with a different dried herb like dried thyme, parsley, or an Italian seasoning blend. You could also add some paprika, smoked paprika, harissa powder, sumac, or chili powder to give it a slightly different flavor.
Switch up the citrus - Want a different flavor than lemon? Try some fresh lime or fresh orange to give it a flavor. Just note that it will affect the taste, so make sure your spices compliment whichever citrus you choose.
Give it a little kick - Like your food spicy? Add some red pepper flakes or spicy harissa to the dish to make it spicy!
Add a little cheese - Want a little cheese with your chickpeas? After cooking, top with a little parmesan cheese, or for those Greek vibes, add some feta.
How to serve
I love to eat these lemony chickpeas as a snack! They are also delicious in salads and grain bowls. I do recommend using the chickpeas right away. If needed, they can be re-crisped in the air fryer.
Recipe tips
- All air fryers cook differently. Make sure to check frequently for doneness! You want the chickpeas crunchy and to have a good bite, but not burnt.
- The chickpeas do get softer when added to a salad and tossed with dressing, so if eating on a salad, add on top rather than tossing together with the rest of the ingredients.
- Make sure to only zest the yellow part of the lemon.

Love these. They are so quick and easy. I use 1 teaspoon of Cavender’s all purpose Greek seasoning instead of the other spices.
