Air fryer chickpeas with no oil turn out perfectly crispy. These chickpeas get dried out and roasted in the air fryer, allowing for a perfect crispy crunch even without oil.
Recently I had a salad that had the crispiest roasted chickpeas on it. And I decided to try to make an air fryer version of crispy chickpeas without oil.
And I'm happy to say, they turned out great and I am here to share this recipe with you! The key is to cook them at a lower temperature for longer. It really helps the chickpeas dry out without burning, which is especially key since this recipe uses no oil that would help the chickpeas crisp up.
The result is crispy air fried chickpeas that are perfect for salads, soups, or just simply enjoying as a snack. These are great with just a sprinkle of salt, but I also give ideas for seasoning if you want to spice up your chickpeas a bit!
Ingredients
- Canned chickpeas
- Salt
- Seasonings (optional)
How to make air fryer chickpeas with no oil
Preheat air fryer basket for 5 minutes at 330 degrees F. Drain and rinse the chickpeas. Then lay on a paper towel and pat dry. Sprinkle with salt. (If using seasonings too, I recommend putting in a bowl and adding seasonings and mixing. It will be easier to mix seasonings in a bowl!)
Add chickpeas to the air fryer basket.
Cook at 330 degrees F for 20-25 minutes, shaking basket a couple of times during cooking.
Chickpeas are done when they are crispy. Serve as desired or save for later!
Recipe tips
- Chickpeas will crisp up slightly as they cool. However, they should still be pretty crispy when you remove them from the air fryer.
- All air fryers cook differently. Start checking at the 20 minute mark for doneness.
Seasoning ideas
Most seasonings can be added before air frying the chickpeas. However, parmesan should be added after cooking the chickpeas to prevent it from burning in the air fryer.
Some ideas for spices to use are:
- Smoked paprika
- Curry powder
- Powdered ranch
- Chili powder
How to use the air fried chickpeas
I love just eating the air fried chickpeas as a snack. So delicious. But you can also use on top of soups (in place of croutons) or in salads. I love using the crispy chickpeas when I made a grain bowl or a salad, as shown below. It adds such a nice crispiness to the salad!
How to store leftovers
Leftovers should be stored in an uncovered container. Yes, uncovered. This will help the chickpeas retain their crispiness.
