Air fryer chickpeas make a quick and easy snack! These roasted chickpeas get so crispy in the air fryer and are delicious. They take less than 20 minutes to get perfectly crispy.
I love crispy crunchy snacks. And while potato chips are delicious, sometimes I want something a bit healthier. Like these homemade crispy chickpeas.
And the chickpeas are cooked in the air fryer, so they get incredibly crispy and delicious! And then you can season them in so many ways. Keep it simple, do a sweet version, or make it spicy.
And then you can just snack on the chickpeas or use them on a salad, on top of soup, or in a grain bowl. So good. So easy.
I hope you enjoy the crispy air fryer chickpeas as much as I do!
Ingredients
- 1 can chickpeas
- Olive oil
- Garlic powder
- Salt
How to make crispy air fryer chickpeas
Drain and rinse the chickpeas. Then place on paper towels to dry. I like to dry them with paper towels, then leave them out for 15 minutes to air dry. You can leave them out for longer if desired!
Now, preheat your air fryer for 5 minutes.
While air fryer preheats, add chickpeas to a bowl with olive oil, garlic powder, and salt.
Stir to combine.
Add chickpeas to air fryer basket.
Cook at 400 degrees F for 13-17 minutes, shaking several times during cooking. Start checking at 13 minute mark, but chickpeas may take 16 or 17 minutes to crisp up.
Protip - Don't be nervous if you hear the chickpeas pop while cooking. A few may do that when you first start cooking them, but they still cook perfectly.
Place in a bowl and snack on the delicious crispy air fried chickpeas!
Recipe tips
- Don't add too many chickpeas to the basket at once. You should be fine using 1 can, but you definitely want to make sure there is room for the air to circulate.
- Pat dry with paper towels before air frying. This will help the chickpeas to crisp up nicely.
- While I added garlic powder to the chickpeas prior to cooking, for most other seasonings you may prefer to add them after cooking to keep them from burning.
- All air fryers cook differently. Check frequently for doneness to make sure chickpeas are crispy but not burnt. Start checking at 13 minute mark, but chickpeas may take 16 or 17 minutes to crisp up.
Customization ideas
After air frying, you can drizzle the crispy chickpeas with a little oil and then toss with different seasonings. Here are a few seasoning ideas.
- Everything bagel seasoning
- Ranch seasoning
- Paprika and cumin
- Pumpkin spice seasoning
- Peri peri seasoning
Serving ideas
I love enjoying these air fried roasted chickpeas just as a snack. So satisfying!
They are also great as a replacement for croutons on salads. I love them on this Tuscan kale salad.
And of course, they are delicious in salad bowls or grain bowls. I like them in this CAVA copycat bowl and especially drizzled with some preserved lemon vinaigrette.
How to store leftover roasted chickpeas
The air fryer roasted chickpeas are best stored in an open air container. If you store in a sealed container, the moisture gets trapped inside, and the chickpeas lose crispness.
If your chickpeas do need to regain crispness, or you want to reheat them, simply pop back into the air fryer and cook at 350 degrees F for 1-2 minutes.
