Trader Joe's cream puffs are a tasty treat! They custard cream is lightly flavored, and the piece of chocolate on top of the cream puff balances out the cream perfectly.
Trader Joe's makes so many delicious desserts. Every time I pop into a Trader Joe's, I always have to browse the freezer section to see what delicious items have popped up since my last visit.
There are of course some items they have year round (hello Apple Blossoms), and then others that are seasonal. These cream puffs have appeared in Trader Joe's in early December around the Christmas season, and they are SO good.
I tried them for the first time last year. I got several boxes, and then was sad when they were gone.
So this year when they appeared again, I grabbed several more boxes. And sadly, we've gone through all the cream puffs. We just like them TOO much!
What do Trader Joe's cream puffs taste like?
The choux dough doesn't have much flavor (as most choux dough doesn't), but it is a delicious carrier for the cream and chocolate.
The cream is sweetened and has a custard vanilla flavor. There is a piece of chocolate on top (I think semi-sweet), that balances out the sweetness of the cream puff perfectly.
How many come in a box?
Six of the custard cream puffs come in a box. Sounds like a lot, but when you love them as much as my kids do, those go quickly! When these cream puffs are in season, I always grab at least a few boxes to stick in the freezer.
How long do they need to thaw?
So the box directions (shown below) say to thaw Trader Joe's cream puffs for 90 minutes. I have not found that they need that long. I've found that after 30-45 minutes they are usually thawed.
However, proceed with caution, and touch the cream lightly to make sure it is no longer frozen before you decided to dive in. My kids love running over and gently testing the cream to see if it is ready yet.
Would I buy these again?
Yes, and yes. I wish I had bought more boxes of Trader Joe's cream puffs this last time. Next time I spot the cream puffs, I'm buying at least 4 boxes.
