Air fryer bell peppers get perfectly roasted in the air fryer. These air fried peppers can be used in a variety of ways, and take less than 15 minutes to cook.

I've found a new way to cook bell peppers and I'm in love. It's the air fryer (of course!) The peppers get perfectly roasted. I love mine with a tiny bit of char on them, as pictured above, but if you like yours less done, just reduce the cook time.
The air fried bell peppers can be used in so many ways. I will sometimes use them to top chicken breast or use them in a salad. And lately, I've been speeding up my stirfrys by cooking bell peppers in the air fryer and then just throwing them in with my other ingredients. A time saver!
However you decide to use the peppers, the air fryer is my new favorite way to cook them, and so quick and easy.
Ingredients
- Bell peppers - I used yellow and orange here, but you can also use red or green as well. Cook times are the same.
- Olive oil - I almost always use olive oil, but you could use avocado oil instead.
- Salt
- Pepper
How to make air fryer bell peppers
Preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes at 400 degrees F. Cut the tops off the peppers and remove the seeds and ribs inside. I then slice the peppers in half from the top to the bottom.
Next, slice the peppers into strips about ¼ inch to ½ inch in size. (Note - if slicing ½ inch, it may take slightly longer to cook). Add to a large bowl.
Add the olive oil, salt, and pepper. Toss or stir until peppers are coated in oil and seasonings.
Place in the air fryer basket.
Cook for 10-14 minutes, tossing every 5 minutes. Cook time will depend on how roasted you want your bell peppers to be. (Note - these were cooked for 12 minutes).
Serve as desired! I'll tell you a few of my favorite ways to use these air fried peppers below.
Recipe tips
- Cook time will depend on how roasted you want your bell peppers to be and how thickly you cut your bell peppers. So start checking at the 10 minute mark for your preferred level of doneness, but they make take up to 14 or 15 minutes.
- These can be customized in so many ways! Add your favorite seasoning and spices before cooking.
- I used a yellow bell pepper and orange bell pepper, but you can use red or green bell peppers as well.

What is the point of preheating an air fryer when you have to open the door all the way up and line the pepper slices up on the racks? I always see to preheat the air fryer...but after I open it up..all the hot air comes out...and I get burns on my wrists. My air fryer heats from the top and it has two racks. I have had it for three years and I think it may be at the end of its life. I have used it about six times a day every day...I even disconnected my gas over two years ago because I dont need it. Could you also recommend one to me for under $100 dollars. I toast and use it for tofu and vegan foods only...on a daily basis...no fried foods so I would not need a basket. Thank you.

Hi Kerin! With my basket style one it's not an issue, since I just put the food in from the top, but with the tray ones I can definitely see it being harder. I usually preheat to keep food from sticking to the basket (preheating helps with that). In your case, I would just add the peppers to the cool air fryer and then check to see if you need to cook them longer.
In terms of a new air fryer that is under $100, there aren't really many with the tray versions. I see a Chefman that is on sale on Amazon right now for around $100. If you don't see one you like now, I would say keep an eye on sales either in stores or online to catch a good deal with the oven type air fryers.
