Homemade air fryer sweet potato fries are easy to make. They are a delicious side dish that is perfect served with hamburgers or sandwiches.
I love french fries in all their forms. Waffle fries, steak fries, and of course, sweet potato fries. They're such a fun alternative to regular french fries.
Making these in the air fryer is so easy too. The hardest part is peeling (optional!) and cutting up the fries. After that it's smooth sailing to delicious sweet potato fries that pair so well with burgers, steak, or sandwiches. I also sometimes serve these in grain/salad bowls!
Ingredients
- Sweet potatoes - cut into ¼ inch thick strips
- Olive oil
- Salt
- Garlic powder
- Dried thyme leaves
Tips from Aimee
- You can leave your sweet potatoes unpeeled or peel them. It's up to you, I've done both!
- I like to air fry mine between 20-25 (I prefer closer to 25) minutes, just make sure they don't burn.
- All air fryers cook differently and cook time could depend on how thick you cut the potatoes.
- This recipe is so easy to swap out seasonings with! Try smoked paprika or other flavors to mix things up.
How to make homemade air fryer sweet potato fries
Peel and cut sweet potatoes into pieces ¼ inch thick. Add to a large bowl.

Preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes at 400 degrees F.
Add the olive oil and seasonings to your sweet potatoes and mix to combine and coat all the sweet potatoes in oil and seasonings.

Place in the air fryer and air fry for 20-25 minutes at 400 degrees F, shaking the basket a few times during cooking to redistribute the sweet potatoes and ensure more even cooking.

Serve with your favorite dipping sauce! I love homemade chipotle mayo or harissa mayo, but they are great with just ketchup.
