Air fryer red cabbage is an easy and quick side dish. The red cabbage gets beautifully caramelized in the air fryer.

A lof of people use cabbage for slaws and salads. But if they stick to that, they are missing out on roasting cabbage. It gets a little charred and caramelized and it is so delicious.

I used to make oven roasted red cabbage, but my new love is cooking it in the air fryer. So incredibly easy, and no preheating needed.

I hope you enjoy the air fryer red cabbage as much as I do!

Ingredients

  • Red cabbage
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Aimee's tips for air frying red cabbage

  • You can buy preshredded or shred yourself! If you have thicker pieces, they may take a little longer in the air fryer.
  • It's okay for some of the pieces to get a little brown. I think it gives it a nice contrast! However, you don't want the cabbage to burn, so watch carefully.
  • I like to use air fryer parchment paper with holes when I make this. Allows for airflow, but keeps the smaller pieces of cabbage from falling to the bottom of the air fryer
  • This recipe is easy to double, but if making more, make sure you stir several times to give the cabbage a chance to cook. You may also need to cook for slightly longer if your air fryer basket is more crowded with cabbage.

How to make air fryer red cabbage

Shred cabbage if needed to get 8 ounces (about 3 cups).

Air fry for 5 minutes at 400 degrees, stir, and then air fry for an additional 2-4 minutes.

Plate and enjoy! You can enjoy as is, or add toppings like fresh herbs, sesame seeds, or drizzle my favorite preserved lemon vinaigrette over the top.
