Air fryer tortilla pizzas cook up in less than five minutes and are easy to customize! These tortilla pizzas are a delicious low-carb alternative to regular pizza.
These air fryer tortilla pizzas are so incredibly quick and easy to make. No preheating required. Just top your pizza as desired, pop into your air fryer, and several minutes later, you have a delicious, low-carb pizza.
I love making classic cheese with tomato sauce and fresh basil. It's so tasty. But I might try a bbq chicken next. Or even classic pepperoni. Whatever you choose, making a tortilla pizza in the air fryer is a fun quick lunch that is kid friendly!
How to make an air fryer tortilla pizza
First, take your tortilla and spread tomato sauce or pizza sauce on top. I also like to add dried oregano.
Top with cheese.
Place the tortilla pizza in the air fryer basket.
Cook at 380 degrees F for 4 minutes, let the tortilla pizza cool slightly, top with fresh basil, and enjoy!
I like to eat the air fryer tortilla pizza as is, slice up into slices like a pizza, or even fold in half and eat.
Why make tortilla pizzas in the air fryer?
This is a great question, and one I thought to myself as I was making these for lunch (again) today.
First of all, to get a perfectly crisp tortilla in the oven, you would need to place them directly on the oven rack. To me, that means a floppy tortilla may lose a bit of toppings if it isn't placed perfectly on the rack.
Also, I love not having to heat up a whole oven (and wait for it to preheat). I was easily able to cook up 4 of these tortilla pizzas in no time at all in my air fryer, no preheating required. So simple and easy.
What type of tortillas to use
I've found that any flour tortilla works best for these pizzas, no matter the size. I wouldn't recommend using corn tortillas, as they don't resemble a pizza as much and don't crisp up as perfectly.
Customization ideas
One of my favorite things about air fryer tortilla pizzas is they are so easy to customize for tastes! Just note that if you are putting too many heavy toppings on, it will weigh down the tortilla and you may need to add some extra time to get it to crisp up.
You can also add whatever seasonings you like! Italian seasoning, dried oregano, and even red pepper flakes are great options.
The tortilla pizza also spends so little time in the air fryer, that I recommend precooking any veggies or meat you add to the pizza (unless it's already precooked, like pepperoni). Most tomatoes can also be added raw if sliced thinly enough.
- BBQ Chicken Pizza - BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, cooked chicken, thinly sliced red onions
- Margherita Pizza - Tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced tomatoes, fresh basil
- Pepperoni Pizza - Tomato sauce, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese
What to serve with the tortilla pizzas
I love to serve these on their own, but they are also delicious with various side dishes and mains! Here's a few ideas.
Main courses - air fryer Mediterranean salmon, air fryer panko salmon, air fryer Greek chicken thighs
Side dishes - air fryer broccolini, air fryer zucchini chips, air fryer tomatoes
Recipe tips
- If adding fresh basil to the tortilla pizza, it does brown up as the leaves touch the hot surface (as seen above!). If you want to minimize this, let the pizza cool a bit before adding basil, or even slice up your basil leaves a bit before adding so they are more ribbonlike.
- Precook all meats (except for pepperoni/Canadian bacon) and all veggies (except for thinly sliced tomatoes) before adding to the pizza.
- All air fryers cook differently, so keep an eye on it, and check for doneness starting at the 3 minute mark.
- My preference to cook these have been at 380 degrees F for 4 minutes. However, I also tested out 400 degrees F at 3 minutes and 350 degrees at 5 minutes, and both those times worked well in my air fryer. But like the point above, all air fryers may cook a little differently.
