This cinnamon banana smoothie is such a delicious smoothie to enjoy in the morning or as an afternoon treat. It gets sweetness from the bananas, so there's no added sugar!

I've been making this smoothie on repeat over here. And every time, I'm so happy it makes a nice, large glass because my kids wind up drinking half of my smoothie! They love it as much as me, I guess.

For me, this is a perfect way to use up those frozen bananas I keep in my freezer. But you can use fresh bananas too! If you do that, you will want to add a few ice cubes to cool the smoothie down.

I love the spice that the cinnamon gives the smoothie, and I always use unsweetened vanilla almond milk in my smoothies. You can easily swap out the vanilla almond milk for plain or use oat milk or soy milk.

How to freeze bananas:

Freezing bananas is so easy! I love to freeze them when they are ripe and I know we won't be eating them soon. Simply slice and place in a freezer-safe bag and pop into your freezer until ready to use.

Pro tip: I do like to keep track of how many bananas I put into a bag and label them if it's one banana or two. That way I know how much I am pulling out when I'm making smoothies or banana nice cream.

Customizations:

One of my favorite parts about smoothies, is they are so easy to make your own and customize! So if you want to customize the banana cinnamon smoothie, here are a few ideas:

  • Add a scoop of flaxseeds, hemp seeds, or ground flaxseed to your smoothie
  • Add a scoop of protein powder
  • Add a handful of greens (note - this will change the color of the smoothie!)
  • Swap out the milk for your preferred milk

Blending tips:

Let's face it. Smoothies can sometimes be hard to blend. Here are some tips.

  • If you have a blender that isn't really high-power, it may take more liquid to blend your smoothie. You can also try stopping your blender, pushing down on the banana with a wooden spoon to get it incorporated, and then blending again. Alternately, you could use a fresh banana instead of frozen and throw in a few ice cubes instead for coldness. Fresh bananas blend much easier.
  • If you have a high-power blender like a Blendtec, Vitamix, or Ninja, then you still may have issues! If so, first try to press down on the frozen banana and then restart. If you still have issues, add a splash more liquid, and then try to blend again.

How to make:

This is a pretty easy recipe! Take your bananas, almond milk, and ground cinnamon and add to the blender.

Blend it all up, adding more liquid if needed. Pour into a large glass and enjoy! Note: If you're making the banana cinnamon smoothie for young kids, it will likely serve 2 in smaller glasses.
