Harissa roasted tomatoes are a delicious addition to any meal! Add these to pastas, on top of chicken or fish, or in a salad or grain bowl. The roasted tomatoes are so easy to make and have that perfect slightly spicy flavor.
Harissa is one of my favorite condiments, and it gives these roasted tomatoes the perfect slightly spicy kick. The tomatoes wind up absolutely gorgeous and roasted to perfection.
You can use mild or spicy harissa sauce for this recipe, and either way you wind up with delicious chili spiced tomatoes that are flavorful and so easy to make.
Ingredients
- Cherry or grape tomatoes - Either cherry or grape tomatoes work in this recipe.
- Olive oil - I love using extra virgin olive oil, but you can use regular as well.
- Harissa - This is the harissa I used for this recipe. I used the mild level to have a milder level of spice, but you can use medium or spicy if you prefer.
- Salt - Just a sprinkling of salt is needed to bring out the flavors in this recipe.
How to make harissa tomatoes
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Wash and dry the tomatoes.
Slice tomatoes in half and add to a medium bowl. Add the salt, olive oil, and harissa to the bowl.
Stir to combine until tomatoes are coated in the harissa sauce.
Place on a sheet pan. I do like to keep the tomatoes kind of close together and not spread them out too much.
Roast in the oven for 20 minutes.
Serve the harissa roasted tomatoes as desired.
What is harissa?
Harissa is a spice blend from North Africa. It's used a lot in Moroccan and Tunisian cooking. You can find harissa in several forms -- jarred as a condiment (that's what we use in this recipe), powdered as a spice blend, or thicker as a harissa paste.
It comes in a variety of spice levels and is typically made from red chilis, peppers, and other ingredients sometimes including citrus and garlic.
I love using harissa in a variety of dishes including honey harissa chicken, air fryer harissa chicken, harissa vinaigrette, and even making a harissa butter.

Customization ideas
- Customize the level of spice by choosing a different spice level for harissa. I used a mild harissa here, but you could increase the spice level by choosing a medium or spicy harissa.
- Add additional seasoning if you like. You could add a little sumac, some garlic powder or onion powder, or a little coriander.
How to serve
The harissa roasted tomatoes can be used in so many different ways! You can top pasta with them, or stir them into a pasta sauce.
You could serve them on top of some Greek yogurt along with some chickpeas for a filling meal. These harissa tomatoes would also be delicious served with couscous.
My favorite way to eat the harissa roasted tomatoes are in a salad, as an addition to grain bowls, or with pastas. And I just like serving them as a side dish with some chicken like these ras el hanout chicken thighs or alongside some air fryer cheesy garlic bread.
