Making frozen cod in the air fryer is quick and requires no thawing! This easy recipe for air fryer frozen cod is perfect when you want to get dinner on the table quickly.
Most of the time, I thaw my frozen cod. But every once in awhile, I really just don't have time. And so making cod straight from the freezer saves me in those situations.
It allows me to just pull frozen cod out of the freezer and cook it in my air fryer. The whole recipe takes less than 20 minutes. I cook cod this way frequently, and season it in different ways, depending on what I'm serving the cod with. But here's a go-to recipe that you can customize with the flavors you love!
Why make frozen cod in the air fryer
No thawing time - No need to thaw! The cod cooks straight from frozen.
Easy - Just season your cod and cook in the air fryer. Quick and easy.
Can season however you like - Speaking of seasoning, you can season the cod however you like! While I don't recommend breading with panko, seasoning the cod with spices works well when the cod is frozen.
Ingredients
- Frozen cod fillet
- Olive oil
- Salt
- Pepper
- Dried oregano or other dried herb
- Lemon
How to make air fryer frozen cod
Preheat air fryer for 5 minutes at 400 degrees F. Remove cod from any packaging if needed. Place cod on a plate, and drizzle with olive oil. Rub the olive oil into all surfaces.
Season with salt and pepper, then sprinkle dried herbs (I used oregano) over the top and bottom of the cod.
Once air fryer has preheated, place cod in the air fryer basket.
Cook for 8 minutes at 380 degrees F, then flip and cook for another 6-8 minutes, or until cod reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees F.
Serve with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and enjoy!
Recipe tips
- Cook time will depend on the thickness of your cod. This is why I highly recommend a meat thermometer to check and see when the internal temperature of your cod reaches 145 degrees F.
- You can easily cook more cod fillets at the same time if you're cooking for 2, 3, or 4 people, just make sure there is a little room between them for the air to circulate.
- If your frozen cod is wrapped in plastic, make sure all the plastic is removed before seasoning and cooking.
- Sometimes frozen cod can dry out a little in the air fryer if you don't watch it carefully. If this happens, definitely serve with a healthy squeeze of fresh lemon juice or a sauce.
How to customize
This recipe is so easy to customize with different seasonings and spices. Swap out the dried oregano that I used for some dried thyme, Italian seasoning, or dried parsley instead.
You can also season with so many different spices like smoked paprika, chili powder, or even curry powder.
