Homemade turmeric shots are easy to make and a cost-effective way of enjoying ginger turmeric shots on a daily basis.
I try to make a batch of these homemade turmeric shots every week. They are so much cheaper than buying premade turmeric shots, and I enjoy the process of whipping them up. They smell so good and I know exactly what ingredients are going in them.
I call them sunshine shots because between the ginger, turmeric, and citrus, they are like a bit of spicy brightness. I especially love them in the winter months when I need a bit of brightness to cloudy days. But they are equally as delicious as in summer.
This is a great recipe to start, but if you find you prefer more turmeric or more ginger, or less, make adjustments so you can find your preferred level of spice and citrus for these turmeric ginger shots.
Ingredients
- Lemon
- Orange
- Ginger
- Ground turmeric (can also use fresh)
- Black pepper
- Filtered water
How to make homemade turmeric shots
Cut the peels off of your lemon and orange and add them to your blender.

Wash the ginger. I typically don't cut the peel off, but you can if you like. However, I do slice it into 4 or 5 smaller pieces and then add to the blender.

Add water, black pepper, and ground turmeric to the blender. Blend until everything is combined and there are no large pieces of ginger. Mixture should look like this!

Strain into a large bowl through a fine strainer. This will capture the pieces of orange, lemon, and ginger.

Use a rubber spatula to push all the liquid into the bowl, so that you are just left with the solids that look like this.

Pour the strained liquid into your container to save (a funnel helps with this!) Pour yourself the amount of turmeric shot you want and refrigerate the rest for the week!

Recipe tips
- The liquid will separate from the solids as it settles in your bottle over time. Shake before enjoying or pouring yourself a shot-sized amount.
- I typically keep these in one larger jar and pour a shot-sized amount daily. However, if you have small containers, you can dose them out ahead of time.
- If using fresh turmeric, use 2 inches of fresh turmeric.
- The leftover solids from straining can be used in muffins, pancakes, etc. They can also just be thrown away or composted if you do not have a use for them.
