Air fryer teriyaki salmon cooks up perfectly flaky and delicious. The homemade teriyaki sauce adds a tasty flavor to the salmon. This recipe is ready in less than 20 minutes start to finish!
I love making restaurant quality meals at home. Things that are flavorful, but don't take a lot of time to whip up. Making teriyaki salmon in the air fryer is one of those dishes that is so easy! The salmon gets perfectly cooked, and is served with a delicious teriyaki sauce.
I love serving the air fried teriyaki salmon with rice and broccoli, but it pairs well with so many dishes.
Ingredients to make air fryer teriyaki salmon
- Salmon fillets
- Olive oil (or heat-safe oil like avocado oil)
For the teriyaki sauce
- Soy sauce
- Brown sugar
- Ground ginger
- Garlic powder
- Sesame oil
- Water
- Cornstarch
How to make air fryer teriyaki salmon
The first step is to make your homemade teriyaki sauce. Combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, sesame oil, garlic, water, and cornstarch in a pot a simmer for a couple of minutes, stirring frequently. Then let cool.
Next, take your salmon fillets and dry completely with paper towels or a dish towel.
Then, drizzle a bit of olive oil all over your salmon and rub in. If your salmon has skin, you can leave it on, or remove it before cooking.
Next, turn the salmon skin side down and spread most of the teriyaki glaze over the flesh of the salmon (reserve a little for spooning over the salmon once it comes out of the air fryer).
Place salmon filets in the air fryer basket and start cooking!
After removing from the air fryer basket, top your salmon with more teriyaki sauce if you want! I also love topping with sesame seeds and green onions.
Recipe tips
- If you don't want to make your own homemade teriyaki sauce, you can buy a premade teriyaki sauce to cut down on prep time.
- Pat salmon fillets completely dry before adding oil. You don't want excess water on the salmon, or it won't cook as well.
- Try not to overcook! Check the salmon starting around 8 minutes, and if you have a meat thermometer, remove when the thickest part of the salmon is 145 degrees F.
- You do not need to preheat the air fryer to make this recipe.
Customization ideas
Don't want to use cornstarch? You can swap out for arrowroot or leave it out for a thinner sauce.
Instead of brown sugar, you could use white granulated sugar, maple syrup, or honey.
