Air fryer pan con tomate is a delicious and easy way to make Spanish tomato bread. This is an easy Spanish tapas recipe ready in less than 10 minutes.

I recently moved to Portugal, and I'm so excited with how close Spain is because I really want some authentic pan con tomate (Spanish tomato bread). And it's just a short plane ride away!
But until I can find the time to make my way across to Spain, I'll be enjoying this air fryer pan con tomate at home. Why make it in the air fryer? Well, I don't have a toaster, and the air fryer is PERFECT for toasting up bread.
So I toast up some delicious, crusty bread and then turn it into pan con tomate. Always so delicious and easy to make.
Ingredients
- Bread - use a nice crusty bread for this, not regular sandwich bread
- Olive oil - I like to use extra virgin olive oil
- Tomatoes - I typically use something like roma or campari tomatoes for the pan con tomate
- Garlic - You'll just need one clove for rubbing onto your bread
- Flaky salt - Some good flaky salt pairs beautifully with the tomato
How to make air fryer pan con tomate
Take two slices of bread and brush or rub a little olive oil onto one side of each slice.
Place in the air fryer and air fry for 4 minutes at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Bread should be nice and toasty! If you want it more toasted, leave in an additional minute.
Cut a piece of garlic in half and rub onto the surface of the bread so it has a wonderful garlic flavor. Discard the garlic.
Cut a tomato in half and use one half to rub onto the bread (with the cut side being rubbed onto the bread), using the toasted bread to "grate" the tomato flavor onto the bread. Repeat with the other half of the tomato and other slice of bread. (Alternately, you can grate the tomato with a cheese grater into a bowl and spoon the tomato mixture onto the bread).
Drizzle olive oil over the top and top with flaky sea salt. Enjoy!
Recipe tips
- This recipe works best with slices of a nice crusty bread. I don't recommend using sandwich bread.
- This recipe uses the method of rubbing the tomato directly onto the bread. However, some people prefer to grate their tomato into a bowl and then spoon the tomato onto the bread. I've done both and both are delicious.
