The air fryer is a quick and easy way to cook frozen edamame. So delicious with very little cleanup!

And you don't even need to boil the edamame before adding to the air fryer. The frozen edamame cooks perfectly all in the air fryer.

I love adding a bit of red pepper flakes to make this a spicy air fryer edamame dish, but it's a matter of personal preference!

Ingredients

  • Frozen edamame
  • Avocado oil (or other heat-safe oil)
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Lemon wedges (optional)
  • Salt

How to make frozen edamame in the air fryer

What is edamame?

Edamame are young soybeans in a pod. You can typically cook them in the pod, but you don't actually eat the pod. The soybeans are soft and edible and can be enjoyed with a variety of spices.

Edamame are commonly eaten as a snack or appetizer.

Edamame can typically be found in the refrigerated or frozen section of the grocery store. This recipe specifically uses frozen edamame.

Customization ideas

  • Don't want it spicy? Leave out the red pepper flakes.
  • Want a little more flavor? Toss the edamame with garlic powder or smoked paprika when adding the olive oil.

How to serve

I love this spicy air fryer edamame with fresh lemon juice and salt. It adds the perfect amount of brightness to the spice.

The air fryer edamame is delicious served as an appetizer before food like air fryer honey garlic salmon, steak and shishito peppers, or air fryer honey garlic chicken thighs.

Recipe tips

  • Toss edamame halfway through cooking to make sure the edamame cooks evenly.
  • For less spice, add less red pepper flakes or leave them out altogether.
  • If using fresh edamame and not frozen, shorten the cooking time by a few minutes and check frequently for doneness.
