Air fryer banana split makes an easy and delicious dessert. A banana gets perfectly caramelized in the air fryer and then is topped with delicious treats!
I love how bananas are available year round. Which also means they are available for desserts year round.
And while I love making a simple air fryer caramelized banana, what I love even more is topping that caramelized banana with ice cream, whipped cream, and other toppings to make a banana split.
This air fryer banana split is a delicious dessert to share or to just eat on your own! And it's perfect for kids or parties -- everyone can top their own with what they love!
Ingredients
- Banana - Ideally yellow and NOT very ripe
- Brown sugar - can be light brown sugar or dark brown sugar
- Cinnamon
- Butter
- Whatever you want to top your air fried banana split with!
How to make an air fryer banana split
In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter. Use a fork or your hands to work the butter into the brown sugar and cinnamon.
Brush air fryer basket with oil or use air fryer parchment paper.
Peel a banana and slice in in half. Place in the air fryer basket.
Sprinkle brown sugar mixture on the top of the banana. Air fry at 400 degrees for 6 minutes.
Carefully lift the banana out of the air fryer with a spatula (banana and sugar will be hot!)
Note: if the banana breaks, don't worry. Just piece it back together on the plate. The ice cream will hide any mistakes. :)
Top as desired! I used vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, cherries, and chopped pecans.
Why don't you want to use a very ripe banana?
The banana gets sweetened and softened when cooking in the air fryer.
If you choose a very ripe banana with spots, the banana is more likely to fall apart when slicing and also is harder to remove from the air fryer basket.
Topping ideas
Get creative when topping your air fryer banana split, or go classic!
Ice cream - Top with ice cream if you like! Choose vanilla or go more creative and do a combination of flavors.
Whipped topping - use whipped cream from a can, make your own cinnamon whipped cream or almond whipped cream, or vanilla whipped cream.
Syrup - chocolate syrup, caramel, dulce de leche. Top with any or all or none of these.
Nuts - I like chopped pecans, but any type of chopped nuts could be delicious! Pistachios, peanuts, hazelnuts, sliced almonds, etc.
Fruit - I went classic with some cherries, but you can top with fresh raspberries, blueberries, etc.
Recipe notes
- As noted, it's better to use a yellow banana that is firmer when making the air fryer banana split.
- Be careful when removing the banana from the air fryer. If it breaks in half, just put it back together on the plate before topping with the ice cream.
