Around here, we've become boxed wine converts. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still love to get bottles of wine we love. But there are so many benefits to boxed wine! Especially if you know the secret boxed wine tips.
So let's not talk a lot about other stuff. Let's get right into the boxed wine tips and why you should drink boxed wine.
Why drink boxed wine?
First of all, boxed wine simply lasts longer once opened. While regular bottles are best drunk 1-3 days after opening, boxed wine can be drunk for 30-45 days after opening (check the box you get for specific recommendations on time). That means, once you open it, there's no pressure to finish the box right away.
This is due in part to the bag inside the box. It keeps out oxygen, which keeps your wine fresh for longer than opening up a bottle.
So secondly, you can drink a little wine at a time! This is great if you live alone or even if you just like to maybe have one glass of wine in the evenings. There's no pressure of opening up a big bottle of wine and feeling the pressure to drink a few glasses or finish the bottle. You can easily just have one glass at night with dinner until you use up the box.
Boxed wine is easy to pack. Because it's not a glass bottle, you don't have to worry about it breaking. So if you're taking a trip, boxed wine can be a safer bet. Going to hang out at a pool where glass is prohibited? Boxed wine is your friend!
You can have several "types" of wine open at a time. Do you like red and your partner likes white? Or vice versa? Instead of having to compromise on a bottle, you can have several different types of wine open at a time. White, rose, red. Even different types of red. Different brands. You could have 3 different boxes open at once, and just slowly drink them throughout the month.
Tips for boxed wine:
Be careful of how much you're drinking. This is so important. Because boxed wine usually contains the equivalent of four bottles in a box... but you can't see how much you've been drinking, it can be a little dangerous.
With a typical bottle you can more easily judge how much you've been drinking. With boxed wine you can't do that unless you count the number of glasses you've had (and don't lose track!) Either way, you just have to be a little more aware so you don't get too tipsy and drink too much.
Find a boxed wine you don't like? No problem. Because they can be drunk for so long after opening, no need to drink it. Just try to use it in cooking! Or see if a friend likes it. Or maybe try it again a few days later... even with a different meal, to see if you've come around. But don't throw it away. Because it lasts for so long, you have time to test it out.
