Air fryer miso cod is a delicious way to cook cod in the air fryer! The miso gives the cod a wonderful umami flavor that pairs perfectly with the flaky cod.
I've been meaning to make this air fryer miso cod for a long time. First step, procure miso. Done. Second step, thaw cod. Done. Third step, cook in the air fryer. Done.
The air fryer cod is so flavorful and easy to make. The miso combines perfectly with the soy sauce and sesame oil. The slight amount of sugar helps the miso caramelize nicely.
And the whole dish is ready in only 15 minutes. This recipe is one that has been added to the dinner rotation and will stay there indefinitely! So easy and so delicious.
Ingredients
- Cod fillet
- Miso paste - I used white (shiro) miso paste
- Soy sauce - You could also use Tamari if you prefer
- Sesame oil
- Sugar - I used white sugar, but you can also use brown sugar
- Black sesame seeds (optional)
How to make air fryer miso cod
Preheat air fryer for 5 minutes. (Mine automatically does this at 400 degrees F when I hit the preheat button. If yours does not have a preheat button, set it for 400 degrees F for 5 minutes).
While air fryer preheats, add the miso paste, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sugar to a small bowl.
Stir to combine.
Take your cod and dry with paper towels, then place on a plate.
Top with the miso glaze.
Add cod fillet to your air fryer basket.
Air fry for 10 minutes at 380 degrees F.
Remove and serve as desired. I topped mine with some black sesame seeds.
Recipe tips
- Cook times will depend on the thickness of your cod. 10 minutes works well for most cod fillets, but if your piece of cod is thin, it may only take 7-8 minutes.
- While white miso paste is used in this recipe, for bolder flavor you could swap it out for a different type of miso.
What to serve with the miso cod
The miso cod is delicious served in a rice or noodle bowl with some air fryer broccoli or air fryer green beans.
I love making this sesame rice to serve with the cod.
Can you use frozen cod?
Yes! I highly recommend thawing the cod before adding miso to the cod. I usually thaw cod in my refrigerator, then pat dry before adding the miso glaze.
What type of miso to use
I usually use white miso, also referred to as shiro miso. I find that the lightness pairs well with the other ingredients and the cod. However, if you have a love of darker misos, you can use that, just know that the flavor will be altered.
