Air Fryer Sausage and Peppers is an easy and delicious meal. The bell peppers and onion get perfectly roasted and the sausage comes out juicy. Serve on a plate or on your favorite roll.

Meals that cook completely in the air fryer are my favorite. Just toss everything in, then you wind up with a delicious lunch or dinner with very little effort.

These easy air fryer sausage and peppers are something we make all the time. The Italian sausage and bell peppers are just a match made in heaven. Slightly sweet, slightly spicy, packed with flavor.

Ingredients:

  • Sausages
  • Bell peppers (I used yellow and orange bell pepper, but red and green peppers also are delicious!)
  • Onion
  • Olive oil
  • Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper

What type of sausage to use:

For this recipe, I used pre-cooked Italian sausage. However, you could use sweet sausage, or hot Italian sausages.

The key is that you want to use the pre-cooked sausage links that usually come 4 or 6 to a package! The ones that are thicker than hot dogs, but about the same length. Those will work best on rolls and breads, and because they are already pre-cooked, you're just wanting them to get hot and juicy inside and don't need a meat thermometer.

Customizations:

  • Use whatever type of sausage you prefer. Turkey, chicken, pork, beef, etc.
  • If you prefer, you could slice the sausage into slices instead of leaving whole and just toss several times while cooking.
  • Swap out the sausage for chicken pieces.
  • Use a different seasoning -- instead of Italian seasoning, you could use smoked paprika and onion powder or season with some harissa or za'atar.
  • To give it a little more spice, add some red chili pepper flakes to the seasoning.
  • I did not use garlic powder, as my sausages were seasoned nicely with a garlic flavor. However, you could always add a little garlic powder to your seasoning if your sausages are not as flavorful.

How to serve:

I love serving my air fryer sausage and peppers on some bread. You could serve on classic hoagie rolls, crusty bread, or whatever you have to make a sandwich!

And if you're in the mood for a little cheese, after making the sandwiches, top with provolone cheese, then stick back in the air fryer for a couple of minutes to melt the cheese.

Not in a sandwich mood? The sausage and peppers are also delicious just on a plate without bread!

Storing Leftovers

If you have leftovers of your air fryer sausage and peppers, just let cool, then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

To reheat, pop back into your air fryer basket for a few minutes until hot.

Recipe tips:

  • All air fryers cook differently. Watch carefully, and remove from the air fryer when your peppers and onions are done to your liking and the sausage is warmed through.
  • Slice the peppers and onion into thin strips of a similar size so that they cook properly.
  • This recipe calls for 1 small onion. You could instead use half a large onion.
