Air fryer parmesan crusted chicken is an easy and delicious crunchy chicken dish. It's made with thinly sliced chicken breast, panko, and parmesan cheese.
Who doesn't love crispy chicken? The crunch of the panko. The delicious flavor of parmesan cheese. And this air fryer parmesan crusted chicken just checks all the boxes.
It's so easy to make, and such a family-friendly dish. My kids love the crunch of the coating. They usually have the crispy chicken with ketchup, and I'll serve mine on top of salad. So easy to enjoy so many ways!
Ingredients
- Chicken breast
- Egg
- Panko breadcrumbs
- Grated parmesan
- Garlic powder
- Dried oregano (or Italian seasoning)
- Salt and pepper
- Olive oil (or air fryer safe cooking spray)
How to make air fryer parmesan crusted chicken
Preheat air fryer at 400 degrees F for 5 minutes.
While air fryer preheats, slice a chicken breast into two thinner pieces. (You can also use 2 thinly sliced chicken breasts instead, as they are already sliced in half). Season both sides with salt and pepper.
In a shallow bowl, combine panko, parmesan, garlic powder, and dried oregano.
In another bowl, crack and egg and whisk. Add chicken breasts to bowl and coat on both sides.
Pick up the chicken breast, letting egg drip off. Then coat all sides with panko, pressing into the surface as needed.
Spray air fryer basket with olive oil or air fryer safe oil, and then add chicken to air fryer. Lightly spray the top of the chicken with olive oil.
Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Plate and enjoy as desired!
Recipe tips
- All air fryers cook differently. Cook times may depend on your air fryer and also the thickness of your chicken. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness. Chicken breast should be cooked to a temperature of 165 degrees F.
- I like to press the panko and parmesan into the chicken when coating to make sure the coating gets onto the chicken as much as possible.
How to customize
This recipe is easy to customize! You can add additional herbs and spices to the panko mixture. You may want to add onion powder, smoked paprika, or even ground cayenne to give it additional flavor.
Additionally, you could use shredded parmesan cheese instead of grated parmesan cheese if you prefer.
What to serve with the air fryer parmesan chicken
I love to serve parmesan chicken just sliced up on its own. I'll serve with a dipping sauce like this Calabrian mayo (a favorite!). You can also top with tomato sauce or serve on top of a salad or pasta.
How to store leftovers
Leftover air fried parmesan chicken can be stored in an air tight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
How to reheat leftovers
To reheat, add to the air fryer and cook at 350 degrees F for 4-5 minutes, or until hot.
