Baked brie with cranberries and walnuts is a delicious combination of flavors. This baked brie wedge is perfect for the holidays. Rather use a wheel of brie? You can do that too!
I am ready for the holidays. And I am deciding what to put on the menu. I always love having appetizers out that people can snack on while waiting for the main meal, and this brie wedge is at the top of the list.
It's such a great balance of flavors. The creaminess of the brie paired with the tartness from the cranberries paired with the citrus of the orange and then the crunch of the walnuts and the sweetness of the maple syrup.
The baked brie is like a party in a bowl, and it looks gorgeous too.
Ingredients
- Brie - wedge or a small wheel
- Cranberries
- Walnuts - Toasted, if using raw walnuts, you'll want to toast in a skillet before using
- Orange - you'll need the zest and juice from half an orange
- Maple syrup
Can you use a whole wheel of brie?
Yes, you absolutely can use a whole wheel of brie! These will actually hold up a little better during baking because you won't have the brie ooze out until you actually slice into it. You will need to cook the wheel of brie for 15 minutes.
However, for a quicker recipe, the wedge of brie will cook faster. It is a matter of preference and which you prefer!
Other topping ideas
- Top with walnuts, honey, and chopped rosemary
- Your favorite jam
- For a savory spicy dish - some warm harissa or calabrian chili paste
Recipe tips
- If using raw walnuts, toast in a skillet before using.
- The cranberries don't cook for long in the oven, so they maintain their shape and texture. If you are wanting a softer cranberry topping, cook in a skillet first and then spoon over the baked brie after it comes out of the oven.
- If cooking a whole wheel of baked brie instead of a wedge, cook for 15 minutes.
How to make the baked brie wedge
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Bring the brie to room temperature for 10 minutes. This will help it cook more evenly.
Line an ovenproof dish with parchment paper. (If transferring to a platter, this will make the brie easier to move-- however, it is optional).
Add the brie to the dish.
Roughly chop the cranberries and walnuts and add them to a small bowl. Add maple syrup, and juice and zest from half a small orange.
Stir together.
Spoon cranberry walnut mixture over the brie wedge.
Bake for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and enjoy! I love serving with crackers or crostini like this easy air fryer crostini.
