Air fryer jam puffs are like a homemade air fryer Toaster Strudel. Puff pastry is filled with jam and then air fried. Top with a delicious glaze and enjoy! This is an easy air fryer dessert that tastes incredible.

Jam filled puff pastry with raspberries

I love air frying puff pastry. I had a package out thawing the other day, and my husband asked if I was making air fryer pop tarts. I said no, but that sounded delicious, so I quickly altered my plans.

And I guess these aren't as much like an air fryer pop tart, but they remind me more of a homemade air fryer toaster strudel. The ones that you cook up all nice and warm in the toaster with the icing packet? So good.

You only need three ingredients to make these! (Two, if you don't care about the egg wash). And they are delicious. The puff pastry tarts like a fancy treat, especially when topped with a glaze.

Ingredients

  • Puff pastry - I use the frozen puff pastry you can get in the freezer section of many stores.
  • Jam - Use your favorite jam. I used raspberry preserves here, but I've used blackberry and cherry jams too.
  • Egg - You will need the egg for brushing over the puff pastry. Don't want to use an egg? You can also use milk.

For glaze (optional) - If you decide to make a homemade glaze for the air fryer tarts, you can mix together powered sugar and a tiny bit of milk or water to make a glaze.

  • Powdered sugar (optional)
  • Water/milk (optional)

How to make air fryer jam puffs

First, thaw the puff pastry according to the package directions. Usually that means around 30-45 minutes at room temperature. Unfold the sheet until flat.

Slice the sheet into 6 different rectangles.

Puff pastry rectangles

On three of the rectangles, add jam.

Adding jam to puff pastry

Top with the other three rectangles, and try to seal the edges so that jam does not leak out when cooking. Cut 2-3 slits in the top of the puff pastry so air can escape.

Brush the top of the puff pastry with a beaten egg.

Puff pastry pockets on parchment paper

Place in air fryer basket. I used air fryer parchment paper, but you do not have to use parchment paper.

Uncooked puff pastry in air fryer

Air fry at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes. (You may have to do this in batches).

Remove from air fryer and serve as desired! I like a drizzle of glaze over the top to make it feel like a toaster strudel.

Don't worry if the puff pastry doesn't stay completely sealed (as shown in the one below). It will still be delicious!

Recipe tips

  • While brushing the top of the pastry with an egg is optional, it does help the puff pastry brown up beautifully.
  • Want to make 6 jam puffs? Simply thaw two sheet of parchment paper instead.
  • Seal the pastry as best as you can, but pastry may separate in the air fryer. It still tastes delicious!
  • Inside will be hot! Use caution when eating, and let cool slightly so jam is not too hot to eat.

How to serve the jam puffs

I love to just mix together some powdered sugar and water or milk to make an easy glaze.

You can also serve with whipped cream, ice cream, or simply just eat on their own!

Customization ideas

If you want to make air fryer turnovers, instead of cutting into rectangles, cut into squares, add a dollop of jam in the center, and then fold over into triangles.

Use your favorite jam or jelly! You can also add a dollop of Nutella instead of jam or add a few chocolate chips inside.
