Cauliflower Smoothie

This cauliflower smoothie uses frozen cauliflower and berries to create a delicious, naturally sweet smoothie that's full of healthy ingredients! This is a refreshing and delicious smoothie that's easy to make any time of the year.

My favorite way to sneak in a bunch of healthy ingredients into my diet? Smoothies. When I don't quite feel like eating veggies, might as well drink them, right?

And a secret ingredient to put into smoothies is fresh or frozen cauliflower. You can't really taste it, but it adds a bunch of nutrients to your diet!

And if you're trying to create a pretty smoothie without spinach (cause you know the combination of spinach and berries can make your smoothie brown), then cauliflower is a great veggie to add!

Smoothie Ingredients

  • Frozen or fresh cauliflower
  • Frozen banana
  • Frozen cherries - I used cherries, but you can also use other berries like strawberries, blackberries, or blueberries. Or a mix!
  • Almond or other milk
  • Chia seeds (optional)

You can add fresh cauliflower or frozen cauliflower to your smoothie, but here's a few things to know.

How to make a cauliflower smoothie

First, add all the ingredients to the blender. Blend together. If your blender needs a little help, add a splash more liquid and stir around the ingredients, and then try to blend again. Keep doing until you get a smoothie.

Divide the cauliflower smoothie between two glasses, and enjoy!

Can you add frozen cauliflower to smoothies?

Yes, but check the packaging. Some frozen cauliflower will recommend cooking to a certain temperature before eating. So to be safe, with that cauliflower, you want to cook and then cool before adding to a smoothie.

Alternately, you can cook and then freeze your own cauliflower for smoothies.

Should you use fresh cauliflower in smoothies

Yes! Well, you can. But cauliflower can make some people a little gassy, and blanching or steaming can help with that.

So depending on how you feel, you can either add it in raw, or you can blanch it and then freeze it.

Why put chia seeds in smoothies?

Smoothies are such a fantastic drink because you can add so many things to them! That means you can add super-healthy ingredients like chia seeds or flax seeds and blend them into your smoothie.

They blend so well into a smoothie and add a lot of healthy nutrients like Omega3s.

How to make a perfectly blended smoothie

So we all know we've tried making a smoothie and half to stop making halfway through. And add more liquid. And push down with a spoon. And add more liquid. And push down with a spoon.

To help cut down on that, I love love love my Blendtec blender. I got it a few years ago, and it has been such a great investment. It makes fantastic smoothies, frozen drinks, blends soups well, etc.

Anyways, I highly recommend investing in a good blender instead of having to constantly buy cheap ones that don't work as well. I know a lot of people also love their Vitamix blenders!

If you're looking for a less-expensive option, the Ninja blenders are also supposed to be fantastic.

Having a good blender can help you blend smoothies better than a regular cheap blender. That's step one.

The next step IS to make sure you have enough liquid. For this smoothie, one and a half cups of liquid worked well to make this smoothie blendable, but not too thin.

If you're having trouble blending a smoothie, add more liquid in small portions AND try to mix around your ingredients here and there until everything is properly blended.

  • ½ frozen banana
  • ½ cup frozen cauliflower
  • 1 cup frozen cherries
  • 1 ½ cups almond milk
  • 2 teaspoon flax seeds

Instructions
 

  • Take all ingredients and add to a blender.
  • Blend until smooth, then divide into two glasses.
